Sherman Birkes - Republican, 7th Congressional District

Sherman W. “Bill” Birkes, Jr., of Joplin, was appointed by the Governor to the Commission on November 2, 2018 and confirmed by the Missouri Senate on January 31, 2019. He serves from the Seventh Congressional District, for a term through March 15, 2022.

Commissioner Birkes is retired from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, where he worked as an information specialist and financial analyst for over 30 years. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Army Reserves and Missouri National Guard.

Commissioner Birkes received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Missouri State University and a certificate from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.

Commissioner Birkes is a former member of the Jasper County Central Fire District Board of Directors. He is also a current member of the Rotary Club of Webb City and Carl Junction and a member of the Military Officers Association of America.
