Betsy Byers -
Director of Compliance and Education Division
Betsy Byers joined the Commission in 2009 where she serves as the Director of Compliance and Education. She oversees the Campaign Finance, Personal Financial Disclosure, Lobbyist, and Training divisions for the Commission.
Betsy began her service with the State of Missouri in 1999 at the Secretary of State’s office as Deputy Secretary of State for Elections. She served the office for ten years overseeing elections for the state, including initiative petitions and the implementation of the federal Help America Vote Act. The Missouri Association of County Clerks and Election Boards awarded Betsy with the Rosemary Plitt Award for outstanding service in election administration.
Previous to her state service, Betsy proudly served her home community as the County Clerk and Election Authority of Shelby County and as an educator for the Shelby County R-IV School District. While teaching civics and history, she coordinated trips to Washington, D.C., for students to connect with their country’s history and government. More than 25 years later, the community continues this tradition.
Betsy is a member of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL) where she has been a presenter at their national conferences and is on the advisory board of the Central Missouri Association of Talent Development. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia. Betsy and her husband Steve have five children.
