Laura Elsbury - General Counsel

Laura Elsbury joined the staff of the Missouri Ethics Commission as General Counsel in September of 2018. Her responsibilities include the overall planning, direction, and coordination of the Commission’s legal actions. In this role, she provides legal representation to the Commission and legal advice to the Commission and staff.

Prior to joining the MEC, Laura worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri for nearly 10 years. During her tenure at the AGO, she worked in the Agriculture & Environment Division, the Criminal Appeals Division, and was the Director of the State’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. She also served as a Unit Leader in the Financial Services Division and the Litigation Division.

Laura spent the first 25 years of her career working in banking. In 2004, she returned to school full-time, graduating from the University of Missouri with a law degree in 2008. Her undergraduate degree, in Business Administration, is from Stephens College.
