Jim Martin - Democrat, 8th Congressional District

Jim W. Martin, of Perryville, was appointed by Governor Mike Parson to the commission July 12th, 2024. He serves from the 8th Congressional District for a term ending March 15th,2028. Martin is a Vietnam Army veteran, is retired from service as an instructor with the Mo. Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and currently serves as Director of the River TREE Center for commitment, service and informed citizenship, as a board member of the Missouri Veterans’ Hall of Fame, as a founding board member of the Perry County Youth Tax Board and as a founding board member of the Perry County Military History Museum, the originating force for the creation of the Missouri National Veterans’ Memorial.

Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Southeast Mo. State University and has been certified in GED and Special Services Instruction as well as acquiring sufficient Masters level credit hours, approximately 85 total, from Southeast Missouri State University in Psychological Counseling and Public Administration to sustain above functional level skills in those fields as well. Martin has served as Outreach Director for the Missouri Protection and Advocacy Services to address individual functional disabilities, founding Director of the state sanctioned Stars & Stripes Historic Region Foundation and is past president of the Stars & Stripes National Museum & Library, is a board member emeritus of the museum and was appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon in 2016 to serve as interim Coroner of Perry County.

Martin and his wife Dorothy, retired owner of a local office supply firm, are lifelong, proud residents of Perryville and strong and dedicated members of the local St. Vincent’s Catholic Parish.
